WHAT's NEXT ITALY Presentation

MIA| CINEMA presents: WHAT's NEXT ITALY

In an ever-changing industry characterised by an increasing number of festivals and markets, by the frenzied rush to get a hold of the film of the moment and the need to constantly be in the loop about projects, companies and filmmakers early in the game, it seems all the more important to discover and keep track of the most interesting films from development through post-production.

Aiming to present to foreign industry professionals Italian projects in early and advanced stages, and also the most recently released films, the MIA hosts an exclusive market event where professionals can find out about new titles by both well-established and emerging Italian filmmakers: What’s Next Italy, a work-in-progress session dedicated to Italian Cinema.

The aim of What’s Next Italy is to focus attention on new films by 'established’ authors that have attractive export prospects, and also by undiscovered talent -- often filmmakers on their first or second films -- and to ensure that the MIA serves as an effective launch pad for the Italian creative industry and provides a reliable and authoritative overview of what Italy has to offer the international industry.

At the Cinema Moderno, on Thursday 20 October, MIA|Cinema will kick off proceedings with an early evening event, whilst on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 October just before lunch, a selection of 15 titles currently in post-production, or still being developed, will be presented by their directors, producers and sales agents.

Moderated by Nick Vivarelli (Italy and Middle East correspondent for Variety), each film will be presented with a clip (a scene, storyboard, backstage footage) and a live interview with the director. Producers and sales agents will be on hand in the room to talk to international buyers.

What’s Next Italy is an opportunity -- within the context of a truly market-centered event for exchange between filmmakers and distributors -- to rediscover the intrinsic relationship between industry and creativity, and between talent and international commercial success.
